About the scholarships
Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, Florida, awards its first-year scholarships through the Office of Admissions, and the system is simpler than the aggregator pages make it look: all accepted first-year students are automatically considered for admissions merit scholarships, and admitted international freshmen are automatically considered for the out-of-state tuition waiver. There is no separate scholarship form and no extra essay for the main awards. The awards are competitive and based on academic merit — a rigorous curriculum and test scores — and students who receive them have typically earned no grades below B.
The awards themselves: the Out-of-State Tuition Waiver covers 100% of the out-of-state tuition portion — about $15,888 a year, about $63,555 over four years. The Presidential Scholars Program adds $42,000 on top of the waiver for Honors students, after a competitive interview. The Vires Scholarship pays $16,000 over eight semesters, and the IB Diploma Scholarship pays $8,000 over four years. New for fall 2027, an expanded partnership with the Stamps Scholars Program funds five first-year students a year with a full ride — the full cost of attendance including the out-of-state waiver, plus $20,000 in enrichment funding for internships, study abroad and research. National Merit Finalists who list FSU first-choice can receive the Out-of-State National Merit package of about $75,776 over four years (waiver + Vires + National Merit stipend).
