Fall 2027: opens 20 Dec 2026 · deadline 15 Mar 2027 Open Updated 16 Oct 2026 By NYCU (formerly NCTU)
Award
The NYCU International Student Scholarship combines a monthly stipend and a tuition award. Official award plans: Plan A — monthly stipend NT$7,000–25,000 + full waiver of tuition and credit fees; Plan B — stipend + tuition at local-student rates; Plan C — stipend only; Plan D — local-rate tuition only. Published 2027 figures: master’s students a full tuition waiver + NT$22,000/month stipend; doctoral students a tuition waiver + NT$29,000/month; bachelor’s up to NT$21,000/month. Awards run for one year and are renewable on academic performance.
Eligible
Non-Taiwanese international applicants of all nationalities. A high-school diploma for undergraduate, a bachelor’s degree for master’s, a master’s degree for doctoral programmes; good physical and mental health; applicants must not be receiving any other scholarship.
How
Apply through NYCU’s online admission system by the intake deadline, selecting the scholarship option (“NCTU Scholarship” in the admission application) for scholarship consideration. No IELTS is required where an official letter confirms your previous degree was taught in English.
Deadline
Fall 2027: the online system opens 20 December 2026 and closes at 11:59 AM on 15 March 2027 (GMT+8); results around mid-May 2027; admitted students reply by late May 2027; classes begin early September 2027. The Spring 2027 round (graduate programmes only) closed on 30 September 2026.
Fine print
“NCTU” is the pre-2021 name — the awarding university is now NYCU (National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University), formed by the February 2021 merger of NCTU and National Yang Ming University. Graduate scholarship renewal typically requires a 3.5 GPA (3.0 for undergraduates) plus Mandarin course enrolment, per published programme rules.

About the scholarship

One point of housekeeping first: NCTU no longer exists under that name. In February 2021, National Chiao Tung University merged with National Yang Ming University to form National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) — one of Taiwan’s leading research universities. Scholarship aggregators (including the one this topic came from) still call it “NCTU”, and the admission system may still show an “NCTU Scholarship” option, but the institution awarding the money is NYCU.

The NYCU International Student Scholarship is the university’s own award for incoming international students across undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes. It is structured in two parts: a monthly stipend (funded partly by the Office of International Affairs, sometimes topped up by your college, department or advisor) and a tuition award (a full waiver of tuition and credit fees, or tuition at local Taiwanese-student rates). You can receive one or both parts, and the award runs for one year at a time.

Eligibility

  • Be a non-Taiwanese international applicant of any nationality.
  • Hold a high-school diploma (undergraduate), a bachelor’s degree (master’s), or a master’s degree (doctoral).
  • Be in good physical and mental health.
  • Not be a recipient of any other scholarship at the time of application.
  • Fill the application form correctly, honestly and completely, with all required materials.

Benefits

  • Master’s: full tuition waiver + NT$22,000/month stipend; research assistantship from an advisor.
  • Doctoral: tuition waiver + NT$29,000/month stipend; research assistantship from an advisor.
  • Bachelor’s: up to NT$21,000/month and/or tuition waiver.
  • The university’s official admission page frames the award as plans A–E: stipend of NT$7,000–25,000/month combined with either a full tuition waiver, local-rate tuition, or no tuition component.
  • Awards are granted for one year and renewable — published programme rules require a minimum GPA of 3.5 for graduate students (3.0 for undergraduates) plus Mandarin course enrolment for renewal.

Documents to prepare

  • Completed online application form.
  • Highest-degree diploma verified with official stamps, and the highest-degree transcript.
  • Two recommendation/reference letters (from a teacher, advisor or employer).
  • Copy of a valid passport.
  • Study plan written in English or Chinese.
  • English proficiency evidence — or an official letter confirming your previous degree was taught in English (no IELTS required in that case).
  • Academic thesis or relevant publications (PhD applicants).

How to apply

  1. Check the NYCU admission pages for your programme and its requirements.
  2. Submit the online application through the university’s admission system before the intake deadline.
  3. Select the “NCTU Scholarship” option in the admission application to be considered for the award.
  4. Upload all documents — diploma, transcripts, recommendation letters, passport, study plan, language evidence — by the deadline.
  5. Wait for results (around mid-May 2027 for the Fall intake) and reply by the admitted-students deadline.

FAQs

Is NCTU the same as NYCU?

NCTU (National Chiao Tung University) merged with National Yang Ming University in February 2021 to form National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). Scholarship sites still write “NCTU”, but the awarding university — and the name to look for on the official site — is NYCU.

What are the 2027 deadlines?

Fall 2027: applications open 20 December 2026 and close at 11:59 AM on 15 March 2027 (Taiwan time). Results come around mid-May 2027 and classes start in early September 2027. The Spring 2027 round closed on 30 September 2026.

How much money does it actually pay?

Published 2027 figures: NT$22,000/month for master’s, NT$29,000/month for PhD, up to NT$21,000/month for bachelor’s — with tuition waivers. The university’s official plans show stipends of NT$7,000–25,000/month combined with full or local-rate tuition, so the exact package depends on the award plan you receive.

Is IELTS required?

Not necessarily — if your previous degree was taught in English, an official letter from your previous institution confirming that can stand in for a test score.

Can I hold another scholarship at the same time?

No. Recipients of any other scholarship are not eligible for the NYCU International Student Scholarship.
